What is a Marina Park?

Marina parks are often located along the banks of rivers connecting to lakes or seas, or on coastal harbors or lagoons. They may also exist as a stand-alone facility or within a port complex.

Marina parks may often have refueling, washing, and repair facilities. Some also have marine and boat chandlers, as well as stores and restaurants. A marina may also include ground facilities like parking lots for vehicles and boat trailers. Marina parks have slipways to transfer trailered boats into the water. A marina may also have a boat hoist well, or a traveling crane, operated by service personnel. Many marinas provide in- or out-of-water boat storage.

Long-term rental agreements usually include fee-based services such as parking, use of picnic areas, and clubhouses. Visitors usually have the option of buying each amenity from a fixed schedule of fees. Arrangements can range from just a single use to several weeks. The right to use the facilities is frequently extended at overnight or periodic rates to visitors. Since marinas are often limited by available space, it can take years spent on a waiting list to get a permanent berth.

Some marinas, especially yacht clubs, are owned and operated by private clubs, while others operate as private enterprises or municipal facilities. A marina may be a standalone private business, a component of a resort, or owned and operated by a public entity.
